Pickled Herring & Fox Tails!

What a wonderful weekend that was had with Miss S and Miss H! Finally managed to get myself booked to Denmark to see the pair of them, only after nearly a year! Though I did nearly have a heart attack when Sterling airlines went bankrupt two days before I was due to fly!
Landed on Friday night and was kindly met by Miss S, we then went to collect Miss H from her Aunt's and met up with some of the relatives, albeit rather short. It was then on the train back to the other end of the country, well that's what is seemed like, and crashed happily at their place - flying can take it out of you that's for sure!
The next day was up early-ish with Miss H, breakfast and then off into Copenhagen (through a lovely walk in the woods with all the trees in their autumnal colour) on the train. I have to say that the train system in Denmark is just wonderful! It was also fun trying to remember that one of the footpaths was actually a cycle path and that traffic went the wrong way on the roads!
Had a lovely stroll through the pedestrianised area and then onto a canal boat to cruise round Copenhagen's canal system and look at all the sites. A much better way to do it than my usual walk round with my head in the air looking at all the sights and walking into things! There's a lovely mix of old and new architecture in Copenhagen - from the old churches to the new opera house! Also saw the Little Mermaid on the shore, though we wont mention the gentleman we saw that nearly slid into the water!
After the tour is was time for some lunch. So we parked up the sound asleep Miss H in her pram outside a restaurant and indulged in a traditional Danish lunch.. even tried some pickled herring (which I now know not to try again) and schnapps! Yum!
Some more wondering round and then back to Miss S's for a quick rest and then down to the neighbours for dinner.. more yummy food!
The next day it was off to the local woods, where the royal hunting lodge is, and there happened to be a hunt going on! It's the yearly hunt that happens on the first Sunday in November every year! A place called Klampenborg. A hunt where the 'foxes' were two guys on horses with a fox's tailed pinned to an arm, and they had around 100 horses and riders chasing them, it was rather exciting! Also saw a white stag, there were deer running to and fro round the woods, I think they were wondering why there was a sudden influx of about 40,000 people!
Sadly my time in Denmark was up after that, so a quick lunch and then onto the airport to fly home.

What a fab time though!
