The Religion That Is...

IKEA! Woo yeah! Mr S and I visited the shopping temple that is IKEA in Croydon today. Looking for a new computer desk, though none matched the strict criteria that was had (well except for one exactly the same one currently in residence though in a different colour!). Did manage to acquire 18 new glasses, two pencil pots and a couple of toys for Miss Yo Yo - who managed to find them all by herself and started tossing round the house the minute we got home!
It's an amazing place.. just watching the people with their measuring tapes, animated conversations and trolley loads! Though once you've bought Ikea you can't go back.. IKEA cushions need IKEA cushion covers, IKEA beds need IKEA linen, IKEA pictures need IKEA frames etc etc.
Though where else can you get two hotdogs, two chips, two drinks and two ice creams for under £5.00!
I bow down to you, oh temple of IKEA.. well just for this afternoon any way!

Lekker!

To Woking! The lovely little town where I live has not only had a Nandos open, also a South African food shop too!
Every time I walk home from the station there's that lovely periperi chicken smell from Nandos - aiming to try it out really soon! Though when I'm coming come the SA shop is closed I managed to make it in there today, having a well deserved day off, and indulged myself in cheese nik naks, tomato sauce Simba chips, grape fanta and leon lime fizz, MMMMMMM! They also have lots of biltong and boerewors and all manner of other scrummy food!
Of course the service was the friendly South African kind. The lovely lady chatted to me! Actually talked, didn't ignore me, was helpful with my 'when's the creaming soda coming in' (happened to be later that afternoon, dang it!). She even had a smile on her face! How refreshing from the usual ignoring you, you're just a customer service that you get a lot over here!
Shame it wasn't a kiwi shop though, then I'd be in heaven!

Critters!

No, not the movie where balls of small furry creatures from outer space eat their way through a small town in the USA, but the ones that live in the countryside here in the UK!
Here I was on the train and found that the book I had checked out of the library was one that I had already read! Well when you read virtually only from the Sci Fi and Fantasy section from the library, avoiding those trilogies that turn into a sextupleties ones as the whole set is never in the library at the same time and you can never remember the author to follow-up when they do come in books, then it's pretty easy to pick one that you've read!
So I had to spend the more than an hour journey to work sightseeing! It was fab... all the fields with horses, mini horses, sheep and cows - the usual English countryside and then there were the sightings that I usually miss with my head in a book! The fox, cotton tails and deer! Wicked and quite cool to see them contentedly eating in the fields and woods by the tracks.. well except for the odd skittish cotton tail that would go bolting across the field as if the fox was after it! Silly rabbit didn't know that the train couldn't come off it's tracks!
Now I just have to remember that when I'm at the library next time to read the first couple of paragraphs of the book to see if I've read it already!

Gordon's Alive!

What a fabulously wonderfully laughing evening!
Managed to secure a ticket to see the filming of the British topical news quiz show Have I Got News For You and it was brilliant!
The host was Brian Blessed, yes, of Flash Gordon acclaim! We all knew it was going to be a riotous evening when he sat down and complained about the chair with him having a tight foreskin and that his wife had told him he had to behave!
Mr Blessed was as giggly as a school boy about being on the show and the usual two suspects (Mr Ian Hislop and Mr Paul Merton) had no idea where Mr Blessed was going or what he was going to say next... even saw Mr Hislop gob-smacked and Mr Merton with his head in his hands!
On TV this screens for 30 minutes with four rounds of questions... it took about an hour for them to get through the first question! Everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves and Mr Blessed's outbursts of 'Gordon's Alive!' or WHWOAR (with the appropriate arm gesture) had us, the audience, laughing so hard that the seats were shaking!
All in all one of the best TV filming's I've seen, and that would be better than Absolutely Fabulous! Very much worth standing the hour and a half in the queue to get in!! Wicked!

Here's a link where you can not only learn about the show, but watch it! Enjoy!

Snip, Slurp, Phwoar!

Had a fabulous day up London.. had a lovely hair cut at the usual Hair by Fairy salon (though the hairdresser left my fringe long - which apparently the people at work say is the sexy hair thing to do)!
It was then off to a great cafe called Coffee, Cake and Kink. The joy of sipping the best ever iced coffee (made with brown sugar syrup and ice cubes made from coffee so it doesn't go all watery!) I've had whilst perusing the wonderful and varied art of kink. I could have stayed there all day. And I have to say the chocolate, caramel coconut slice was almost to die for, delicious!
It was then off to Forbidden Planet to drool over all the wonderful models, toys, book, artwork and t-shirts relating to cartoons, manga and sci-fi! I was very lucky to just walk away with a remote controlled K-9! (well it was only £18.50 on sale, down from £39.99.) Coming out the store there was a whole troop of stormtroopers.. with the voice changing helmets, blasters and all - Phwoar!
It was then a quick look round coco de mer (gawd if I had the money would I buy something from this store) trying not to drool! Why is it the truly gorgeous delicious things are sooooo expensive!
